What is a Pool and Spa Automation System?
An automated pool and spa system lets you handle many features from the palm of your hand.
Each automated control system is powered by a digital control panel, one which controls certain pool functions, remotely, through relays and actuators.
In most cases, this includes your pool pump and heater—but you can connect your spas, pool lights, and water features, too.
Installing a swimming pool system takes care of the hard work for you so that you never have to worry about dirty or cold water again. It's also a favorite addition to any pool remodel project.
What Parts of My Pool Can I Automate?
Almost any type of equipment, from pumps to lights to heaters, can be controlled wirelessly through an automation system, allowing you to set the mood in your backyard before you get home.
- Pool pumps- control the flow of water to features or turn your pump on and off.
- Lighting- set the mood from anywhere by controlling the color and intensity of your pool lights. You can even pre-program light shows.
- Temperature- a connected pool heater will allow you to heat up your pool or spa so it’s ready to jump in when you get home.
- Hot tubs- turn on the jets via remote.
- Features- turn laminar jets, fountains or waterfalls on or off.
- Chlorinators- monitor salt level and adjust chlorine output.
Automates Your Swimming Pool
Automated control systems allows you to loop in and control all of the systems that maintain your pool in one place and that control panel can be anywhere in the world.
The ability to do this is accomplished through the use of relays and actuators that both regulate flow and operate switches.
It is probably most common to loop in the pump and heater but the filter, chemical dispensers, water features, lighting, and spa can also follow suit.
There are two main types of automated pool systems: sand and cartridge filters and robotic and automatic cleaners that clean and vacuum the floor.
These devices either operate on electricity or on their own power while swimming in the pool, using a pump motor to filter out dirt and other particles from the water. In some cases, they can also use an ultraviolet system to sterilize the pool or kill algae.
Swimming Pool Automation Cost
Pool automation systems can be less expensive than many other pool features and accessories.
Pool automation products run anywhere from $1,800 to $4,000. The total cost of an automated system is influenced by multiple factors:
- Your pool type: concrete with plaster or aggregate finish, tile, stone, fiberglass, or vinyl]
- Your pool size
- If your pool has a tub or spa
- The brand and model of the automation systems
- If the system's includes a smart-phone app
Pool automation pricing is also determined by how many pieces of pool equipment or landscape lighting you would like to control. If you have basic items like a pool pump, cleaner, and lights, then your price will be less.
If you choose to control many items like a pump, cleaner, niche-less lights, spa light, pool light, blower, multiple sets of landscape lighting, and waterfall pumps, then your pricing will be higher.
Swimming Pool Automation Systems Near You
Saves Time - You're on the Go
Daily pool maintenance can be time-consuming. The various components that keep your pool water filtered, clean and at the right temperature all need to be regulated.
Pool automation can open and close your pool covers. And robotic automatic pool cleaners are like handy little robots that make the rounds of your pool until all the debris has been filtered out.
Robotic pool cleaners scrub, clean, and vacuum as they automatically navigate your pool, so they’re a great time saver.
Saves Money
Automated pool systems are set to make adjustments when needed to run your pool more efficiently. If you’re not running your heat pump around the clock, your bill will be lower, the same way a programmable home thermostat saves you money on your energy bill.
It’s common to leave your various pool systems heating, filters, lighting on more often than needed.
Have you ever cranked up your pool heater, and then forgot to turn it down? System automation leaves them on only as long as necessary. They can also prevent chemical balancing systems from overcorrecting imbalances. Automated pool chemical balancers minimize your chemical costs by adding chemicals with precision to maintain chemical levels with zero-waste.
Easy Chemical Maintenance
Pool and spa automation eliminates the tedious task of chemical adjustment and frequent water testing.
Instead of calculating your pool chemical levels every time they need to be serviced, your automated system can do it for you Your automated system can be easily programmed to target your best chemical balance for the proper pool maintenance, assuring a steady water quality every day.
Multi-System Automation
Pool and spa automation systems come with the main hub, switches, and controls to optimize basic pool functions—but you can automate many systems to redefine your pool experience.
It’s easy to switch control options from your pool to your spa, so you needn’t waste time, or energy, whenever you’d like to have a different poolside experience.

I loved the professionalism and knowledge that the technician demonstrated. The employee performed a wonderful job cleaning the pool and maintain the equipment; and the office staff I spoke with was both wonderful and patient. I highly recommend this service!Posted on GoogleSteffani GrandeAfter several attempts with other companies we FINALLY found Elite Pool Service. As first time pool owners in 2020, it was difficult to find someone to just explain the basics and help me understand how to maintain a pool. They have been amazing! We have been working with them for over a year and they have treated me with respect and patience answering all my questions and helping me learn how to maintain our pool. They replaced the old original pool pump with an upgraded one with a scheduler, which I love. The weekly service over the Summer has taken so much stress off my plate and our pool has been in great condition. I am no longer dreading another Summer of pool care.
